Watching ‘Paris, Texas’, it’s almost impossible to not think of Garry Winogrand.

William Greiner’s photos of New Orleans, Baton Rouge and the gulf coast area have consistently been the best work depicting what life looks like down there now. Way before Katrina, I always felt he was one of the few contemporary photographers who really captured what New Orleans felt like. His online journal has become this essential link to New Orleans for me. So I was really excited recently to get the above book in the mail from him. There’s only 28 plates in the whole book, but it says so much more than that tombstone Steidl put out last year with all those boring images made by Polidori. I’d really love to see a giant deluxe monograph come out of all these photos.

I used to eat here every day when I was a teenager.
