The Jane Fonda lecture delivered! She walked on stage with a Bichon Frise dog in her arms and the best soccer mom hairdo I’ve ever seen. Seriously, I kept thinking the whole time, ‘If I had a wig like that, I could wear it everywhere‘. Otherwise, it was all movie star self-actualization-speak with lots of bitchy asides with well-timed political jabs that the audience ate up. Sadly, she only mentioned Klute once.

And while it was exciting to make eye contact with Jane for two hours (we got third row), I was more mesmerized by this older couple sitting nearby. The wife looked exactly like Eudora Welty and the husband had the most amazingly shaped head I’d ever seen, which he complemented with a cool red bow tie.

I love you to the max. After four months of being on a waiting list, I finally got the new Silver Jews album from the library. I’ve been reading Dave Berman’s ‘Actual Air’ in the meantime. And, I know, it’s lame to be writing about stuff I checked out from the library.

Oh, and hats off to whomever picked that Eggleston print for the cover. It totally stumped me when I first saw it. Having a photo used for an album cover remains my only real goal in life. I’m looking in your direction, Olid Gol.
