I saw Kiki and Herb tonight for the first time and it was incredible! My friend Keith gave Jeremy and I tickets to see the show at the Wonder Ballroom (it’s nice). Kiki opened up with a jazz version of The Cure’s ‘Let’s Go To Bed’. I wanted to see their show in NY really bad, but it was always mega expensive and kind of impossible. Their unexpected cover of Elliott Smith’s ‘King’s Crossing’ choked me up.

For a while, I thought the worst thing Katrina did was kill Mary Hansen and wipe out my family’s house, but I just read O’Neal Broyard is dead. He owned the Saturn Bar, which was the place I thought of that essentially described NO and it’s where I told first time visitors to go, even if their cars got broken into while they were inside. Plus, it’s where I became best friends with my best friend. Oh well, I’d like to have a place like that one day.

Xmas this year turned out pretty amazing! Katherine, Matt, Paul, Molly, Jenny, Donna, Kathy, Justin, Sally, Jad and Jeremy and I ate triple our weight in food and laughed all day long.
I can’t wait to see my film pictures. Until then, all I have is this Polaroid teaser and Jenny’s earrings.

Jenny has it all figured out.
Speaking of, my friend Shannon, with her second mention in the local papers, is turning into some kind of Warholian superstar.

Until I get my film developed, this is a pretty good example of what Portland looked like today. Except there should be lots of cars added showing all the dumb ass people spinning out and wearing their tires down paper thin. It makes me think Portlanders didn’t learn anything from the blizzard of ‘03 and that we’re in for a few days of the city shutting down due to snow. I’m okay with that as long as the coffee shop across the street stays open.
Saw Brokeback Mountain last night and it completely ripped me into a million pieces.

The Meier & Frank department store downtown is this amazing relic of both Portland and I guess America in general. This is its last year of existence before it becomes a crummy Macy’s. Hardest hit will be the 10th floor Santa land with the last indoor kiddie monorail in the US.

Last night I watched an old TV movie from 1986 starring Vanessa Redgrave as a trans-sexual tennis player. For the first hour, both Jeremy and I hadn’t figured out that Redgrave was playing the pre-op man’s role and we kept wondering who was this terrifying actor who looked like a cadaverous version of David Bowie’s ‘thin white duke’. I still haven’t recovered from it and so it’s probably for the common good that I couldn’t find a picture of her from the film on the internet.

Not a huge fan of xmas. To quote my grandma, ‘fuck christmas’. (I’m paraphrasing). But I am excited about having everyone over this year. And I’m hoping not to repeat my cooking debacle of Thanksgiving. I’ve been testing out some stuff from the Chez Panisse book, an idea I stole from Steve. And I checked out some cook books from the library by some of the big guns: Escoffier, Bourdain and “Larousse Gastronomique”, all of which is pretty intimidating.
On a positive note, Chris Ware has finally released some new Rusty Brown action.

Thanksgiving feast at Jenny and Donna’s house! Jenny made gummi hamburger and hot dogs. The buns were made from that non-organic material found in ‘circus peanut’ candy. Disgusting.
