More photos unearthed from Dec/Jan. I switched to Yorkphoto for the processing and the weirdest thing happened, they uploaded a bunch of albums onto my account that weren’t my photos. It was really weird and highly disappointing. There was pretty much no voyeuristic thrill. It was all pictures of somebody’s kids at the zoo. Snooze.

This site turned one years old this week. I know, I know, I get choked up thinking about it too. So take a minute to go through the archives of the last year and laugh and cry and maybe learn something before you’re through.

Wooster Collective had a short piece on Portland, which should be of interest for anyone thinking about visiting/moving here. I thought they were pretty dead on.

I guess I had a couple of rolls of Ilford HP5 lying around from last summer that were recently developed. It’s so exciting when you see old stuff much later. But it sucks that most of these pictures are so boring.

This is the escalator on Roosevelt Island.

Times Square.

Bartow and Jon.

Katherine… dancing? falling down?

I think this was something on the Angel Tour.

These last couple are of my old neighborhood. Diva, the hair salon in the lower left, used to sweep out all the hair trimmings out into the street. It really used to freak me out. When you walked past the apartment on the right, you could see in the living room and check out what the people were watching on tv.

I think I took this picture based soley on my admiration for the Eames Time Life chairs, which are so beautiful. I want a brown leather one, but I could live with a black one.

We almost sang karoke here on Saturday night, but it was really dark and depressing inside.

I liked all these meat options. Jeremy thought the duck was farting.

We’re starting to get sunny days with some regularity. It’s quite incredible.

Here’s some recent photos shot around xmas.

This was one of the few pictures that came out from Astoria.

Jenny playing shuffleboard at The Hutch.

I spent a good part of the day at the Magnum photos site. It’s pretty impressive, esp. the Bruce Davidson subway photos from the eighties.

A big group of us went to this famous Portland location on Saturday afternoon. The Acropolis has amazing and cheap steaks. The house special was $4, practically Vegas prices, but tastier. I wouldn’t recommend using the ATM, though. There was a $4 surcharge.

I found some really good sites the other night: Transparent New York and Barcode Yourself.

We were supposed to meet up with Katherine last night and somehow forgot. She said it was no big deal, but I don’t know…

It seemed like overkill that somebody needed to change the bottom of the sign making this single entendre into a more obvious one. We had dinner here last night with Kathy and it was surprisingly good and also the darkest restaurant I’ve ever been in. The only lights were from the tiny table candles.

Okay, this is the last of the snow pictures (unless it never goes away). Last night we went down to the Hutch and partied until they kicked us out and closed down the place at 11pm. The smooth layer of ice over everything combined with the general hilliness of the neighborhood led to some sledding hi-jinx.

We should not be surprised when we are kicked out of the neighborhood.

There was a lot of shouting and screaming.

I do not recomment sleeping in the snow.

Also, I really NEED a Bloggy this year so vote, vote, vote. I’ve already nominated Chevy Valentine for Best Political Commentary.

I was feeling all Donner Party today, since it was the second day that my car was snowed in (there was a deep sheet of solid ice it couldn’t back up over and I couldn’t roll over it). But I was starting to feel like my shut in situation was a little over dramatic, since both Katherine and Jeremy went to work and Jenny went on a sledding date. So I walked the couple of blocks to the grocery store. I love it when there’s that thin layer of ice over a heavy snowfall, kinda like you’re walking on a giant creme brulee.

Check out Elizabeth’s amazing paper suit photos. Snap to it, Chevy and Megan!

Last night when I was trying to fall asleep, I could feel these cold need pricks across my face and hand and arm. When I touched my face there was nothing there, which really freaked me out. So I’d toss and turn, but if I moved back to where I was lying, I’d feel it again. Then I touched my pillow and realized it was freezing and wet. This has happened before but I guess this time I had the sense to sit up and climb to the tiny window above my bed. It was closed, but it was sleeting ice pretty hard and the wind was really blowing and apparently it was blowing some of it through the tiny crack where the window touches the frame. I was so glad that I wasn’t having a stroke, that I didn’t mind having to search around in the dark for a bunch of paper and tape to try to block off all the snow that was falling on my head.
