I went with Tina to sign up for a membership at the gym at Chelsea Pier. I went along to check out their fancy swimming pool. I guess I was sitting on the couch with Jennifer Connelly for like five minutes and never noticed/saw her cause I was transfixed on this really giant fat guy walking around like he owned the place in this tiny white robe. I swear it wasn’t wide enough to cover his girth and didn’t seem like he was wearing underwear. It was like a trainwreck.

The icing tasted like butter.

The coolest restaurant in NY!

Went out to dinner tonight at this restaurant that Bobby and Rachel took Jeremy to this weekend. They played an entire Nina Simone album while we ate. It was really incredible and cheap and had that great decaying seafood nautical theme like you’d find in New Orleans or Baltimore (I’m told). But it seemed like the real thing instead of a theme. I liked this psycho woman who sat herself down at this table full of guys next to us. And she was seriously dangerously flirting with this one guy. I’ve never seen anyone pay so much attention so relentlessly to another person in public in a long time. Everything was like, “OH MY GOD YOU DO THAT FOR A LIVING NOW?!? ARE THESE GUYS YOUR FRIENDS FROM WORK?!? OMIGOD!!!! THAT’S SO AWESOME!”
Then we saw this movie “Stevie” at the Film Forum. It was incredible. Check it out on DVD I guess cause tonight was the last night.

This old stenography machine smelled like our gradeschool libraries.

It was a long week spent almost entirely at work. I think it’s time for a new job/career/criminal master plan.

My cousin Michael’s band played at the Mercury Lounge last night and I went with my sister and her very amicable entourage. When we came outside afterwards to smoke on the sidewalk with the dozen or so other people, there was this guy (above) with the megaphone singing along to the Stones “Sympathy For The Devil”. He was standing on Houstous Street and REALLY belting this tune out like his life depended on it. The sidewalk smokers were enthusiastically doing the the “Woo-hoo-HOO” part of the song. Despite all the applause received when he finished, there were no encores.

My sister and I argued whether this was a dog or a lamb.

The sister in question, responding defensively to teasing about her new hairstyle.

From today’s NY Post.

I suppose Burberry Body Bags are just around the corner.

Oh! If only this were my job. I’d love to do this in NY or New Orleans.

Coming to work this morning I walked right past Stephin Merritt as I was listening to The Magnetic Fields’ Holiday in my headphones! It was on 24th and 10th Ave, right next to the St. George apartments (mental note for future stalkers). Earlier, I’d been listening to all these live MF tracks that Jeremy recently gave me and thinking about how Stephin Merritt is the greatest songwriter in the world. I just smiled as I walked past him cause he was with some guy. Right at the moment we walked past each other, the guy was putting his arm around Mr. Merritt’s shoulders, who could be seen visibly flinching.

I left the office tonight with three of my coworkers, which is rare for us to leave at the same time. I made a joke how I felt ’safer’ walking to the subway with them. But then as we walked past the projects on 10th Avenue, we were pelted (and missed by a mile) by eggs coming from the direction of one of the apartments in the projects. It was so random and none of us could see what direction that it was coming from, that it didn’t seem like there was any threat to the event. Moments before that, I was thinking about how these were the ‘nice’ projects. At least compared to New Orleans, where it was reported recently that drug dealers like the set people on fire in the common area of one apartment block. My parents volunteered to do Thanksgiving Meals On Wheels one year in the New Orleans Housing Projects and when they got there, they had second thoughts and brought all the turkey dinners to my grandmother, who has a lot of freezer space.
