Glamorous Santa Monica

Haven’t slept a wink since I got here even though I worked 16 hours yesterday and haven’t had any downtime, except the hour I spent watching Joe Millionaire. Starting to go crazy. Went for a walk tonight after the rain stopped. There was no one around and the air temperature felt perfect and unreal. It was strange to be walking around an area I’d only driven thru before. Then I went to wander around a massive grocery store just cause I didn’t want to go back to work yet and then another deluge started. So I had to buy a $12 umbrella to get back to work with. Otherwise I would have gotten pneumonia. I was so angry.

My fear of dying senselessly in a plane crash was kind of balanced out yesterday by an equally nagging fear that I had left my portable heater next to the couch on. Like I could clearly remember turning my computer off. It was killing me for the entire six hour flight.

I went to five places today to get my nicotine inhaler, which I’m supposed to puff on whenever I want a cigarette. Since I’m leaving town, I was worried about not having it. Normally, this would not be something worth commenting on, but after two places I started to get jittery. Katherine was trying to get Welbutrin the other day and they wouldn’t give it to her, which immediately led to smoking. It gives you some perspective about being proud of quitting when youre scrambling around Brooklyn pathetically looking for little tubes of nicotine gas.
In the little place that sells Fart Bombs, the lady behind the counter told me I had to wait a half an hour just to find out if they had it. And when I asked why couldnt she just check, she gave me that appalled look, which just provokes me more. “The last time I was in here you were really rude then, too!” And then I ask for my prescription back, the whole time thinking how this is the only place around here that sells Fart Bombs and I’m kind of burning a bridge here. Ultimately I end up at another crummy place further down the street where they A) have it, but B) claim it isnt covered by my insurance.
They dont tell me this until after Ive waited a half hour. When I tell them it was covered by my insurance last time, they called me a liar. So Im trying to get my insurance company on the phone. But nobodys there. And then when I give up and agree to spend the fifty bucks, they tell me theyve already deleted my name from the computer. As I was wiping away the blood trickling out of my eyes, I noted this suitcase (below) for sale a few feet away and it made me incredibly happy.

Grand Army Plaza.

First time I’ve seen this: debit cards in taxis. The driver said it didn’t work yet cause he needed a special antenna. I thought I saw a TV in the backseat of a cab the other day, on the kind of cabs that have the lit up signs on top. It got me wondering if the inevitable commercials shown to the captive audiences in cabs will be sixty, thirty, and fifteen seconds long. Or will they be longer since there won’t be any ‘programming’ to interupt?

Just had this shaming moment of clarity: having just got home, I’m watching ‘Friend of Foe’ on the Gameshow network and I’m thinking, ‘How do I know these two contestants?!?’ Could we have gone to school together or something? And eventually, I realized I’d just seen this episode before. Like, yesterday…

Between the exploded Fart Bomb and the blue hair paint Dan was spraying on the guests, it was kind of a stinky party. I fell asleep on the couch watching Fantastic Four cartoons.

Earlier in the day, Katherine and I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond Bridal Registry and signed up under the name ‘Williams’. Here’s an example of some the presents we want.
